It's not just Benjamin Britten who celebrates an anniversary this year. Little known for anything other than his piano compositions, French composer Charles Alkan, has his bi-centenary this year, and so, together with my intrepid pianist Ray Keary, we will be performing his Sonate de Concert, Op 47, for cello and piano at many of our recitals this year. We are pairing it with the Cello Sonata in C by Benjamin Britten also. Check out when you can hear...Read Full Post »

Really looking forward to my upcoming concerto at the beautiful St Chad's in Headingley. It's 50 years since the discovery of the amazing Concerto in C major by Haydn and I am thrilled to be performing this piece with the West Yorkshire Symphony Orchestra. Music-loving cricketers, see you in Headingley on 8th December !

Have had a really busy week, firstly playing with 'Cameratino', the offshoot of Camerata Ireland. We played at Castletown House, near Dublin. Then on to Castletownshend in West Cork, where Ray Keary and I gave the closing recital in the St. Barrahane's Church Festival of Music on 9th August. Next week it's back to Castletown House on 19th August, this time with the full Camerata Ireland orchestra but not before playing in Clandeboye at the Festival there on 17...Read Full Post »

Really enjoyed today's recital playing to a full house including lots of young people at the beautiful Woolley Hall, Wakefield. Despite the soaring temperature outside, the atmosphere was amazing during the recital. Many thanks to Sandra Carlon and the Yorkshire Live Music Project for inviting myself and Ray to play. Look forward to playing at future events.

Here she is: my stunningly beautiful tulip bought in Amsterdam last summer.
At the height of 'Tulipmania' (1637), three bulbs of the fabled 'Semper Augustus' sold for 10.000 florins, more than the price of a large canal house in the centre of Amsterdam.
